We’re partly through Day 5, which means we only have about two more days until the auction is over! Keep track of all the auctions you’re eyeing, and don’t forget to bid on time.
We want to thank everyone who has been bidding on our wonderful golden needle auctions. We started yesterday with 77 needles, and now we’re down to 43. That’s incredible. Of those remaining, a third consists of beta service auctions, nearly all of which are $10 or less. That’s an extremely good bargain considering all the benefits betas provide, so go bid on our betas!
As we’re entering the final days of Auction Week, we’d like to help creators promote themselves. Here are some tips to ensure that as many people find out about your auction(s) as possible:
Reblog your auction post if you haven’t done so yet! Find your post on our list of creators, and click the circular arrow on your post to reblog it.
If you’ve reblogged your post earlier in the week, do so again in the final days/hours leading up to the auction closing time. Some people may not have seen your first reblog, or they may have forgotten about it as it’s been a few days since it crossed their dash. Consider queueing your reblogs (click the post to reblog and on the drop-down menu on the “Post” button, click “Add to queue”) or scheduling them to be posted at specific times throughout the day, so that your followers in different time zones aren’t left out (click the post to reblog and on the drop-down menu on the “Post” button, click “Schedule”).
Share ideas/prompts you’d love to work on and your strengths as a creator. Are you an expert at drawing complex backgrounds? Is there a rarepair you would love to make a moodboard for, or are you itching to write a horror fic because you’ve been prepping for Halloween? Did you fall in love with the Venom movie and want to make Venom plushies? Let people know! Reblog your auction post and include more information, or share on Twitter, Discord, and any other social media platform you’re on.
Talk to people on our Discord server. Don’t be shy! Everyone’s nice and we love having new people show up every day. Many of our creators have found new bidders this way and have made some new friends while they were at it. Don’t forget about our creator-bidding matchmaking channel, which is for bidders to put up ideas they’re looking for creators to fill, and for creators to advertise specific ideas they want to create!
Let people know if you’re open to group bids. Are you open to making sequels of existing fics or expanding on a universe you’ve created? Did you hear that someone had an exciting prompt for you but doesn’t have the budget to bid on your auction? This is a great way for people to get involved even if they don’t have much money to spare (chipping in $1 or $5 to a pool can make a big difference), and you’re helping raise more money for charity! It’s a win-win.
We also have more character/ship/fandom-specific lists to share (get in touch if you’d like one to share with your followers as well):
The happystevebingo team has helped us create a massive list of all possible Steve Rogers creators, with pairings listed next to creators.
All the Stucky creators participating in MTH are on Stucky AU Big Bang’s list
Marvel TV Bang has a list of all the creators offering auctions involving Marvel live action shows (Agent Carter, AoS, Cloak & Dagger, Marvel Netflix, and the Runaways)
Spideypool fans can now check out the pairing list on Tumblr in addition to Discord
Winteriron fans can do the same, thanks to summerpipedream’s post here.
Is there a fic idea that you’d just love to write, but you’re not sure if you’re up to it?
Do you write a ridiculous amount of fics each month and find it hard to keep track of your typos?
Have you signed up to some holiday exchanges and want to have a beta handy?
Do
you have a masterpiece that’s been sitting on your hard drive for the
last however many years, just waiting for a brush-up so it can be
published?
If any of these apply, then what you want is a beta reader!
Marvel Trumps Hate has 31 brilliant auctions for beta services,
with some people not even mentioning an upper word-count limit for the
length of fic they’re willing to read. All auctions are currently
sitting at extremely reasonable prices (most are less than $10); it’s a
great bargain when you think of all the benefits you’ll get!
But what is a beta reader?
Beta
readers are people who check through a writer’s story before they post
it publicly. They can have different specialties and may be able to help
you with various things such as: • SPaG (spelling, punctuation, and grammar) • Syntax and sentence flow • Plot cohesiveness and structure • Canon compliance • Characterization and dialogue • Scientific or historical accuracy • Knowledge that helps with specific AUs, like the way gangs operate, how motorcycles work, etc.
Betas
may also offer thoughts, questions, encouragement, and personal
opinions on a fic as they read; in effect, they’re your test audience. A
different perspective can help you figure out what needs improvement as
well as the things that stand out in your writing. If you enjoy working
together, then perhaps you’ll find yourself with a new fandom friend as
well as a longer-term beta reading arrangement!
Sound intriguing?
Then off you go; look through the auctions. Maybe this is the place
where you finally find your beta for those 5 or 50K of fledgling fic!
so this was only supposed to be a sketch like always with kofi but i liked the idea of tony being sleepy and cozy in a big sweater so much i cleaned it up and coloured it lfgkjhcfklhjg thank u @ishipallthings !
So, by the result, seems like many of you think AA Tony is pretty young. Among voters, nearly 80% think AA Tony is late 20s to mid 30s. Wow.
Personally, I think AA Tony is Early 30s, but recently based on others’ rational opinion, I started to think he could be even younger. Still, it surprises me that he could be seen as Mid 20s or Younger! (hmmm that’s so cute)
As one of you told me AA Fandom Wiki says Tony is early 30s or late 20s, but I guess Fandom Wiki is not by AA official, so I believe there is no canonical answer. But it’s fun to see so many people in fandom assume AA Tony is fairy young whether it’s canon or not.
One of things I love about AA stevetony is that they seem like same-age friends 🙂 (well there is AVAC but that is different lol) I assume AA Steve might be early 20s as he told Sam, but he is very stable and mature, therefore to my eyes AA Steve’s more like late 20s or older lol
I think AA Tony’s perky charm makes him look younger, and it’s…. really adorable (ok that is a point I want to get to lol)
