Today is the first of December, meaning it’s day one of our #AshmoleanAdvent🎄🎁🔔
On each of the days until Christmas, we’ll be sharing a fascinating and festive object from our collections for you to ‘open up’ and discover. A new object will be revealed every morning here.
Day 1Yūhi Hill and Drum Bridge at Meguro by Utagawa Hiroshige Our first advent calendar treat is this woodblock print of a snowy bridge by Japanese master printmaker Utagawa Hiroshige. Here, Hiroshige has skilfully depicted the chilly silence of a snowy afternoon. The snow and snowflakes in the image are depicted by leaving unprinted spots on the paper that stand out against the dark blues of the river and sky; a technique used in traditional Chinese and Japanese ink painting.
Check back tomorrow to see our second advent object.
Art for runningondreams’ [And Their Hearts Are Guarded By Dragons], for Cap-Ironman Big Bang. It’s an amazing Pern AU, so if Pern and/or dragons are your jam, I recommend you read it!
“Let’s put the past behind us Please tell me you love me
I want to give it to you only I want to tell you that I love you I love you just the way you are All your tears I want to wipe them away Come to me, honey I wait for you everyday
Lets walk together I will make you laugh I will make you laugh even more Forever”
PS practice for my beautiful hottoys, the white Ironman and the black Captain America are the best! Just look like their wedding suits~

So what is a remix?
A fanwork remix is a transformation of an existing fanwork. Much like with song remixes and remix tapes, remixing a fanwork is your chance to create a different version of another person’s fanwork. This is your invitation to re-imagine another person’s work by putting your own spin to it using different techniques (for example, changing the style, tone or narrative voice…) while maintaining some of its original elements like the general plot.
Remixing a fanwork can mean switching POV or composition, changing the tone or mood of a story, writing a timestamp or drawing a missing scene, or even transplanting a fic or picture into a new universe.
Still not sure what that entails? Be sure to read through our How To Remix post for tips and examples, and our General Remix Guidelines before you sign up!
As organized in our previous years, this event will consist of three challenges: the Remix Exchange, the Remix Relay challenge, and Remix Madness.
Remix Exchange
The Remix Exchange is a fanwork exchange between writers, where everyone is assigned to another writer and expected to choose and remix at least one of the available stories. Your remixer can remix any of your fanfics (aside from one “safe story” of your choosing and other ineligible stories).
For more information, check out the full Remix Exchange page. Sign-ups open on December 15th.
Remix Relay
Relay Remix is a remix chain in the style of a speedy game of Telephone for artists and writers. For those of you who like the idea of continued remixes and thinking of remix ideas on your feet, this is the challenge to sign-up for!
For more information, check out the full Remix Relay page. Sign-ups open on December 8th.
Remix Madness
Madness is a low-stress, no obligation event. During Madness, you are welcome to create as many remixes as you want or feel comfortable with, starting from when the event begins until creator reveals happen!
Remix Madness information will be available starting on January 10th.
If you have any questions before each challenge begins, feel free to send us a message or reach out to the mods at cap.im.events@gmail.com. We can’t wait to get started!
