They could have make the episode about Tony being less dependent on technology. They could have make the episode about Steve being really bad with it. 

And they chose to show Steve having a bit of difficulty with the starkpad and learning to use it, and they show Tony who decide to use paper and pen to learn from Steve, and Steve won the fight mixing his ‘human ingenuity’ with Tony’s armor.

That’s one of my favorite thing about this show, how Steve and Tony always try (and often succeed) to find the middle ground between their preferences.
